One of the problems with home-theater surround sound is finding the space to place 6 speakers in a room. It can be a challenge. Sony's HT-CT100 converts the surround experience to 3.1 channels and uses only 2 speakers, a subwoofer and a SoundBar. The SoundBar is placed like a center channel speaker directly over the TV. Speakers within the bar radiate at different angles to deliver center, left, and right channels through a spatially enhanced soundfield. With 50 Watts to each channel + 100 Watts directly to subwoofer, the system delivers 250 watts total. Featuring HDMI - Component Video - Optical A/V ports, you can connect your TV and DVD or Blu-Ray player directly to the system. It's the simplest, most streamlined way to enjoy home-theater surround.
LPCM Playback - LPCM is a method of encoding audio information digitally which can have up to 8 channels of uncompressed audio. This wider bandwidth allows for high resolution audio which is closer to the original 3 Optical, 1-Coax Dolby Digital/DTS/ProLogic

Summary: Really disappointed.
Comment: A leading consumer magazine I trust recommended this and they're usually right, but I should have listened to it first in person I guess. The sound is ok, but it has no power at all. My built in TV speakers have more power. I'm not that picky, but even at full blast you can barely hear it. I tried a variety of sources just to make sure, and you can still hardly hear it. Not only that, I got more of a surround effect from the built-in tv speakers as well.
You will be disappointed if you buy this, and probably be ticked off when you find how much it costs to ship back. I disliked this so much I returned it even considering what it cost to ship back.

Summary: Amazing Soundbar... Volume not an issue for me
Comment: I have a small living room in my apartment, and based on the reviews I have read (both here and cnet) I figured why not give this a try...Wow was I happy I did. DTS and Dolby Digital (via both blu ray and regular dvd) sound amazingly crisp and clear. The volume getting loud enough is never an issue...in fact, I normally have to keep it on like between 10-15 when watching dvds because it gets so rumbling and loud. That said, I am using hdmi for my cable, blu ray, and netflix roku box. I use RCA for my nintendo wii and set it to "game" mode, so it creates a dolby pro logic II effect.
Stylish, Compact, Gutt Rumbling/Crisp, and relatively inexpensive.
Highly Recommended.

Summary: Good, but far from great...
Comment: I studied various sound-bar HTS solutions for approximately two months before I purchased the HTCT-100 by Sony. I listened to samples in a local Wal-mart and read numerous reviews on the product and, for the money, it seemed like the best possible choice. I got the system from Best Buy on the after Thanksgiving Sale for a respectable $199. I've had the system for a couple of weeks now and I am somewhat disappointed by it.
Don't get me wrong, the system is visually pleasing and takes up little space. It is also one of the few soundbars I could find that has (3) HDMI imputs, (1) HDMI output, and doesn't require a separate receiver to function (the receiver is actually built into the Sub unit itself). It is also ridiculously easy to setup using HDMI cables; five minutes tops. However, the sound produced is disappointing. It's a 3.1 system, that is supposed to simulate surround-sound, but so far I haven't experienced this. The sound is a little richer than my HDTV's internal speakers, but the real upside is the deep bass that the sub can produce.
Some other discrepancies that I've noticed:
(1.) When watching movies or playing games via my PS3 sometimes the sound is distorted or will cut out at regular intervals, simple turning on and off the system corrects the problem, but it's still annoying.
(2.) Static is sometimes heard, again turning the system on and off corrects the problem.
(3.) When watching TV the receiver (connect to the TV via the included optical cable) will sometime fail to pickup on a random channels' audio, turning away and then back to the channel will correct the problem, but, again, annoying.

Summary: Great Sound
Comment: I was using a high dollar 5.1 surround sound system but wanted to down size to something to go with a new SONY XBR6 40" TV. I could not have made a better choice! The sound is awesome and I love the BRAVIA sync control, I can control my TV, Blu Ray player, and this Amp easily with one remote

Summary: Sound is fine, but more functions available if you own a Sony Bravia TV
Comment: Very good sound upgrade compared to TV's built-in speakers. It is an excellent choice if you have a 32" or 36" HDTV in a medium size room (e.g., large bedroom). The sound bar is about an inch narrower than the width of the chassis of a 32" HDTV. On-screen menu features only available if mated to a Sony Bravia TV. I have it hooked up to a Panasonic and now wish I had a Sony so I could use a single remote, get on-screen menu adjustments, and mount it neatly below the Sony chassis.
